"The expert in anything was once a beginner." - Helen Hayes
If you're like me, you can appreciate the effort it takes to keep students interested and engaged as the school year comes to an end, especially after testing has finished. In that effort, my sophomore students have been participating in an online blog project in the hope of luring them with a topic of their choosing while sparking their interest in reading and writing about it.
Overcoming the Obstacles
With this project have come the hurdles of using the technology provided as well as getting the kids up to snuff on blogging, what it is, how to do it and using the platform itself. It has definitely been a rough ride but I believe that their effort is beginning to show in their work.
Take a Peek
You're invited to check out their group blogs and see what they've been writing about. I have my personal favorites and I'm sure you'll find yours. I'd especially love for you to make comments on a post or two if you find you have a little bit of time.
They are working hard (some more than others, as you'll soon see) and I feel certain they would be thrilled to know that others out there, specifically their teachers, are paying attention and engaging with them.
Welcome Feedback
I welcome your suggestions, help and affirmations as this has been way more work than I had imagined but the goal has certainly been achieved. They are reading, writing, debating and researching whether they know it or not.
Happy blog surfing!
